“To equip teacher education students with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for a drug-free lifestyle through awareness, support, and community engagement.”

Objectives:

The main objectives of the Anti-Drug Club are to:

  • Raise awareness about the risks and consequences of drug abuse.
  • Prevent drug use among students through education and advocacy.
  • Promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle for a safer and more supportive community.

Outcomes:

Student teachers can benefit from participating in the Anti-Drug Club by:

  • Receiving education on the risks of substance abuse.
  • Accessing a supportive community for discussing concerns and promoting advocacy.
  • Developing personal growth through leadership and teamwork.
  • Engaging in awareness campaigns that build their capacity to positively influence peers.

30-HOUR ANTI-DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAM

Week 1: Orientation and Awareness Workshops (10 hours)

  1. Program Launch and Orientation
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Activities:
      • Introduce the program, objectives, and expected outcomes.
      • Overview of each club’s role and how students can actively participate.
      • Guest speaker (counselor or healthcare professional) to discuss the dangers of drug abuse.
  2. Workshop 1: Understanding Substance Abuse and Its Effects
    • Time: 3 hours
    • Activities:
      • Interactive session on types of drugs, causes of abuse, and their short- and long-term effects on the body and mind.
      • Q&A session to clarify myths and misconceptions.
  3. Workshop 2: Building Resilience and Making Healthy Choices
    • Time: 3 hours
    • Activities:
      • Discussion on coping mechanisms, stress management, and decision-making skills to resist peer pressure.
      • Activities: Group discussions and role-playing scenarios.
  4. Session: Role of Peer Support and Community Engagement
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Activities:
      • Discussion on the importance of peer support, student clubs, and community engagement.
      • Identify local issues and propose practical solutions for creating a drug-free environment.

Week 2: Skill-Building and Leadership Development (10 hours)

  1. Workshop 3: Developing Leadership and Communication Skills
    • Time: 3 hours
    • Activities:
      • Train students in public speaking, presentation skills, and active listening.
      • Practice how to communicate anti-drug messages effectively in peer and community settings.
  2. Peer Educator Training
    • Time: 3 hours
    • Activities:
      • Select peer educators from each club (Anti-Drug Club, NSS, YRC, RRC).
      • Equip peer educators with teaching materials and strategies to educate others about drug awareness.
  3. Session: Planning Awareness Campaigns and Events
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Activities:
      • Students brainstorm, design, and organize upcoming awareness campaigns.
      • Assign roles for campaign activities: social media, posters, street plays, etc.
  4. Interactive Seminar: Legal Implications and Support Systems
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Activities:
      • Invite a legal expert or police officer to discuss legal consequences of drug use and trafficking.
      • Overview of available support systems and helplines for individuals affected by substance abuse.

Week 3: Community Outreach and Advocacy (10 hours)

  1. Community Awareness Rally
    • Time: 3 hours
    • Activities:
      • Organize a rally in the community or nearby schools with banners, slogans, and pamphlets.
      • Distribute informational materials on the dangers of substance abuse.
  2. School and College Awareness Drives
    • Time: 3 hours
    • Activities:
      • Students visit local schools and colleges to conduct short presentations and distribute informational materials.
      • Engage younger students with interactive activities (quizzes, posters, skits) on drug awareness.
  3. Street Play/Role-Playing Session
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Activities:
      • Organize a street play or role-playing session in public areas to depict the consequences of drug abuse.
      • Involve peer educators in acting out scenarios that promote a drug-free lifestyle.
  4. Social Media Campaign Development
    • Time: 2 hours
    • Activities:
      • Create social media content to spread anti-drug awareness.
      • Assign responsibilities to each club for consistent posting on topics like myths about drugs, testimonials, and helplines.

Week 4: Reflection, Evaluation, and Future Plans (2 hours)

  1. Feedback and Reflection Session
    • Time: 1 hour
    • Activities:
      • Reflect on the program’s impact and discuss what students have learned.
      • Obtain feedback from participants, faculty, and community members.
  2. Planning for Sustainability
    • Time: 1 hour
    • Activities:
      • Discuss ways to continue anti-drug initiatives within the college and community.
      • Create a yearly calendar of anti-drug events and assign roles for continued advocacy.
